I always tell people that if they are going to dream about starting a business, they should dream big and have lofty goals for themselves. At the same time though you need to realize you need to start small in order to make those dreams a reality.

Are You Setting Yourself Up For Failure

Most people these days, have been highly effected by the media showing them over and over the life of the glamours and that your life doesn't amount to anything if your being shown on TV of your ideas are being highlighted in Fortune or Fast Company magazine. But it's up to you to set your own expectations of how things are supposed to be.

Most people have this out of this world image or can I word fantasy in their head about how you think things are supposed to be, where they are supposed to be in their life, what they should have by now, what job, what relationship, kids, the whole nine yards. This fantasy blinds you from reality and prevents you from appreciating the genuine goodness that exists in your life. Most people are so worried about getting their ducks in a line that they don't enjoy what they are already have. Most people are just trying to be something they aren't.

The solution? Simple: Drop the needless expectations. Appreciate what is. Hope for the best, but expect less. Simply go after what makes you happy. All of us have dreams but if we don't start somewhere small, you're going to wake up one day and be like, "wow, I wasted so much dreaming and never acted, and now I have nothing."

You have to accept reality instead of fighting it, one day you need to realize you're going to have to get your hands dirty in order to get what you want out of life. Don’t let what you expected to happen blind you from all the good things that are happening. Every day you are alive is a gift, take every day to learn something new and continue building yourself and teaching others what you know, so they don't make the same mistakes you did.

What is that one step you can take today, that will get you one step closer to your dream?
