In a world filled with all the distractions of the media, social networks and all the other distractions why are you wasting your time doing things you don't enjoy?
As I sit at a local Starbucks in Durham NC, I sit here wondering why do the people of this world waste their time doing things they don't enjoy? Starbucks seems to be a place that always brings in a diverse crowd, you got the people that come in that simply just want a cup of coffee, but other people seem to come in to socialize, escape and get online to get some work done, read a book or simply to to reflect on life like I am doing. I always find it ironic also, that most of the people at Starbucks always seem to be yawing, the place is filled with caffeine yet most of their customers are beyond exhausted but instead of getting some sleep to rest their minds they continue to drink their coffee and cram more information into their already overloaded minds. It's also interesting to see that no matter how much work someone has in front of them, they always seem to have a moment to check their text messages and/or Facebook account. In a world filled with all the distractions of the media, social networks and other distractions why are people still wasting more time doing things they don't enjoy?
I'm not saying jobs and education are a waste of time, they are important to help people grow and learn new things. But I think there comes a point where people need to stop learning about things that don't interested them or help them to grow. Quit taking the jobs that will pay the bills but don't challenge you personally and make you grow. In world already filled with so many distraction why do people waste their time learning and cramming information into their minds that they are going to simply forget in 2 days.
I'll give you a first hand experience, I went to college and got a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration. Even though I did attend 90% of my classes, I really didn't feel as though I learned anything in most of them. The only classes I did enjoy were my psychology, economics and my entrepreneurship courses. To this day I probably won't remember anything I learned in my english, science or any other core classes because it didn't interest me but at the same time I probably wasted two years on this material while in college. The really sad part about college for me was that I spent 4.5 years in college learning marketing tactics and leadership qualities but it wasn't till after I graduated that I really started to learn what I really enjoyed. I probably learned more in the two years after graduation than I did in the 4.5 years I was in school because it was the ideas and talents I enjoyed doing!
To make my point it's not until you figure out what you actually enjoy doing, that you can truly learn something so why waste your time learning something, especially paying 50,000 for that education, where it doesn't interest you. Discover yourself first, what passions and talents has God given you that make you tick, and then chase after the information and skills need to accomplish those things, I guarantee your life will be a lot more enjoyable and exciting!
I think people are always scared to chase their own dreams because they feel as though they are going to fail or are afraid how the world will react to their thoughts, I know I was at first, but if you have an idea and a true passion for something go after it! Don't waste your time chasing things that don't matter to you, life is short and before you know it you're going to be old looking back on your life asking yourself, "why did I spend some much time doing things I didn't enjoy or love?"
Take a moment, right now, to think about the things that make you happy and start prioritizing your life to only go after those things.
