The best advice I have ever heard about being successful in its simplest form is to inherit this thought process: "The Best Way To Succeed In Business Is To Be In Business."
It seems like everyone these days dreams about starting their own business or has an idea for the "Next Big Thing." To often though and sadly to say these dreams lay dormant in our minds or in the magical place of "tomorrowland." Many times when I talk to someone and they start talking about their dreams, aspirations and desires they are able to always tell the dream in such detail about where they would like their dream business to be and what they what problem they want to accomplish. The only problem is that 90% of these people are all just talk. They won't ever take the leap or faith or take the baby steps towards making their dream a reality.
The worst belief system is that they need to get everything in place and have all the dots connected before they can start their business. They feel as though everything has to be perfect before they can step out and go after their dreams. The problem though, is that as they are waiting and waiting they are not getting anywhere closer to accomplishing or finding out if their business idea can be a success. They waste their time telling themselves that the idea is not ready or that they still need to establish a few more connections or line this process up in order to make things happen.
The best advice I was ever given, is that you need to start somewhere and you need to start now. The best way to succeed is to start your business now. Start offering your services or sell your products, stop talking about it and just do it. If all you are doing is talking and setting up meetings, you are not making money you are not writing a success story you are just standing in place and not moving forward.
Being in business and moving forward allows you to make mistakes and learn things that you may have not know about yourself or the potential of your business ideas. Some of the best companies came out of being in one business but as they worked and the original idea didn't work they found a better opportunity. Take for instance Wells Fargo, over they years they have changed their business dramatically and have brought more focus to their organization that has extended them as an industry trendsetter.
It's not till you are in business that you know if something is going to be successful. It is when you are in business that you get to see your true colors and your full potential. When you are settling for "dreamland" or "tomorrowland" all you are doing is setting yourself up for failure, instead tell yourself I am in business and start acting like it.
